I generally work in gouache, a matte opaque water-based paint traditionally used by illustrators and animators. I love it for the saturated color, velvety matte finish, and the way it brings a little midcentury flavor to the way I paint light and shadow. Recently, I have begun layering my gouache with glitter, sequins, rhinestones, and resin to add another dimension of contrast to my already high-contrast work and to explore the idea of color maximalism in a different medium, but probably mostly because I really love sparkle.
Original gouache painting of an iridescent pink roller skate wheel on a 5x5 wood panel, featuring lyrics “Spirits high & legs look hot” hand-lettered around the rim. I added super sparkly glitter and sealed the the panel with glossy artist-grade resin. Panel is 7/8” deep and comes with a sawtooth hanger.
